The Fertile Crescent
The "fertile crescent" is often referred to as "the cradle of civilization." Some of the oldest human artefacts have been found in this region, and many of the early advanced civilizations such as the Egyptians, Summarians, Babylonians, and Assyrians lived in this region as far back as 3000 BCE. In the image below, you can also see the Tigris and Euphrates rivers; these sources of water were vital to the region because they provided arable farmland as well as routes for travel and trade.
